What is LASIK?

LASIK has been successfully transformed the lives of millions worldwide. LASIK or Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis uses a computer-guided beam of ultraviolet light from an excimer laser to reshape the surface of the cornea and improve the way light is focused or refracted by the eye. This reduces or eliminates a variety of refractive errors. The process involes folding back a thin layer of the cornea which is replaced after the laser treatment is completed. Healing is rapid with minimal discomfort. Since the FDA approved LASIK in 1995, the excimer laser is now routinely used around the world to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
